- When will the new ones come out? Is it better to wait right now and buy when the new models arrive or should I just buy now?
- What are the differences with each release cycle? Are the upgrades worth it? (I read some articles about the CPU upgrades but they were comparing the MacBook Air with the MacBook Pro).
- What happens to the pricing? How much cheaper do the old versions become? Are the new versions priced the exact same as the apst generation was?
How do MacBook Pro release cycles work?

I'm buying myself a MacBook pro and I have questions about their release cycles.

The new ones are often cheaper than the previous ones, as Apple try and lower the prices everytime they bring out a new product. The old ones cannot be brought from Apple. There is no exact release cycle, and the changes can be anything from a whole new modal, with some amazing stuff, to just a spec upgrade with newer hardware. The last upgrade when from the 2.4GHz Core 2 Duo to a 2.1GHz i5 in the 13" modals, so sometimes it's only a small upgrade. But I recon it's time Apple bring out a big new upgrade, it's been quite a few years since they did.

Well Core2Duo to an i5 is a pretty big upgrade
So if I were to wait until around June to buy one, do you think the specs would be better or the price would be cheaper?

Techie, before you buy a MacBook Pro... ask yourself this question, what do you need on the Mac OSx Lion system that you can't do on a Windows? If you can answer this, then you can go buy yourself a MacBook Pro. If not, you are better off sticking off to a Windows laptop.
I am highly regretting of ever buying a MacBook because of the price and specifications. I am using Bootcamp 90% of the time instead of the Mac operating system. I believe Windows is a lot better for web designer, coder, photoshop, or any tech related users, like us. The Mac operating system was designed for simple tasks for simple users. I find it extremely annoying how Mac doesn't have Program file and that their back-end files are extremely messy which makes it impossible to find anything. If you want a fast computer, I recommend buying a Windows computer to your liking and get a SSD if you want fast fast speed.
I will say this as a pro for the Macbook... it is the only laptop that I have found so far that it is as light, slim, portable, durable, long battery-last, great screen, light-up keyboard, giant mouse pad, and great service from Apple. Other than that... I do all of my heavy work on Windows regardless. I find that program runs a lot faster on Windows than Mac.
Back to the topic though... the most recent update for the MacBook Pro was last December when they upgraded the processor. Usually, if you follow the history of Apple updates, I can take a good guess between June to December that the next MacBook upgrade will be between those times. There are also rumors that they might completely remodel/change the design of the MacBook Pro. Then again... it's almost impossible to know since Apple keeps everything so secretive.

Price: If you buy the MBP 13", it is NOT worth the upgrade to i7. Why? 1.0GHz and couple more hundred GB of storage is not worth $300+.
If you want a powerhouse, get the MBP 15". (Note: You can buy a laptop and a desktop Windows for that price)
MBP to me... is like a luxury item. Beware... there's a lot of looters out there looking to steal when you're not looking.

It's not all about the specs. The design is important to me too
Right now I'm on a laptop with a huge battery in the back. The extended battery is what allows me to work all day without carryig around a charger everywhere. The problem is it creates an awkward balance for the laptop and it won't fit normally into my laptop sleve so I can't carry it around in a bag comfortably.
The laptop has been difficult to open from day one. You can't just push the screen up; you have to hold the base down with one hand while opening the screen, or you'll lift the front of the whole computer up (and then it'll fall back down to the table).
It has only one speaker, at the left, and only one microphone, at the right.
It has an awkward numberpad on the right side of the keyboard.
It should have a 1.3MP webcam but the quality isn't that great at all.
The mousepad has a section dedicated to scrolling which is seperated with a raised bump, yet we all know how crappy scrolling on laptops is because it's so jerky.
It seems thatit's not just me, but all my friends with Windows laptops from all different brands have some type of problem, even when their specifications are amazing.
Apple has designed a great, efficient operating system, and bundled it with a perfectly designed computer. There's no awkward feel or glitchy stuff; it all just works well. This is what I want. I want the backlit keyboard. I want the magnetic cord connector. I want the carefully designed body.
I want to be done fooling around with computers which are glitchy or ugly. Apple has something cute that works perfectly
Why not get it?
Yes, it's more expensive, but I feel like it's worth it to be able to work comfortably every single day.
(I've also been thinking about switching to iPhone instead of putting up with the fragmentation that occurs with Android, where you buy a phone and 6 months later everyone has already forgotten about it and its problems.)

I disagree with EVERYTHING you said in this post. I have been developing for 6 years. First 2 on Windows, last 4 on Mac. I would NEVER go back to windows. Microsoft products just plain suck. You know why your Windows system runs well, because you are using Mac hardware. Go buy a PC and then let me know how well windows runs for you. Programs run faster on Windows? Is internet explorer the only program you use?
