I just noticed that both our signatures and blog comments are nofollow. Are we nofollow now?

Yeah it's nofollow. I was going to do was make a whitelist of allowed URLs and only allow links out to them, but I decided to link out to everything just just nofollow it to be safe.

I just have problems with people linking to spammy or low quality sites. In my opinion if you have a link it should be earned, not just gained for posting something.

I dunno, maybe I can make a field for a dofollow link on member profiles. That way the best members can have one powerful link from their profile pages (instead of thousands of other links).

As a nofollow forum it's definately getting more traffic. I'm guessing that stopping all those votes for low-quality sites helped, but of course I can't prove it beause a correlation doesn't prove a cause-and-effect relationship.

Any ideas of how to prevent spammers from linking out to their sites and having our community penalized for it? I'm open to ideas. :)

Making a pretty high post count in order to have links in your signatures? One too high for spammers to stick around to achieve.
And there is a dofollow link from your profile.

The problem is you cant have your anchor text, dofollow nonetheless.

Spammers post links in their posts :( Then search engines instantly index that.

I can turn on a moderation queue but that just sucks for new members.

I'll see what I can do with additional custom profile fields.
